When Furniture Meets Fine Art: Bespoke Toro & Antìlope Chairs with Hand-Painted Backs

August 28, 2025

At Sebastian Blakeley Designs, furniture is more than functional – it is an expression of individuality and artistry. Our bespoke handcrafted Toro and Antìlope dining chairs can be elevated even further by inviting a client’s favourite artist to hand-paint the back panel. A collaboration of this calibre creates an extraordinarily beautiful and unique dining suite, a combination of master craftsmanship and fine art. The result - a perfectly designed, one-of-a-kind collectors set. More than a statement of style, these chairs have the depth and meaning to become treasured family heirlooms, passed down through generations as timeless expressions of both craft and creativity.

The Vision: A Fusion of Craftsmanship and Creativity

The concept behind this idea is simple yet powerful: blending Sebastian’s mastery of British craftsmanship and design with the creativity of your chosen artist. While the Toro and Antìlope chairs are already sculptural and iconic in form, they lend themselves to a collaboration with a fine contemporary artist or a classical rendition.

Why the Toro and Antilope Chairs?

Both designs are instantly recognisable and lend themselves beautifully to artistic collaboration. The Toro Chair with its bold, sculptural silhouette, provides a striking surface for painted detail, while the Antìlope Chair, elegant and refined, becomes a subtle yet stunning frame for bespoke artwork that will reflect personal taste and interior style.
